Mermer and Gin Blossoms @ The Coach House

Yup. Good times had by all. Loud rock and roll for everyone.

Then the Gin Blossoms came on.

J/k - they were amazingly great live. They sound fantastic and have a great rapport with the crowd. Table walks, crowd interaction - the cell phone singing was my favorite - they covered all sorts of bases. I'd go back, but I'd wear earplugs - my head was ringing for the better part of 8 hours afterwards.

Thats what happens when you shoot photos on stage and then stay for the 2 hour concert at your front row table.

Verizon

Was the place to be last Sunday:

Its the new TV era

And their signals are still weak as s***. Anybody else have this issue with the over-the-air TV? I've been getting the same signal since I bought my TV 2 years ago and even with a signal booster (or as I like to call it - "$50 extra bucks in someones pocket and a useless pile of crap for me") I get maybe 1/4 of what I'm supposed to and I've lived in 3 different places and faced 3 different directions.

If this is the future, I'll take more rum thank you.

Terrible-riffic sales prices

If only there were a place that sold crap you didn't really need but wanted, wholly disregarding the actual build quality which is equal to or lesser than the Target crap you buy but don't really need because it was of a slightly higher caliber design quality than aforementioned Target crap and it were all on sale during a holiday weekend designated for the remembrance of fallen soldiers and you had but one shot to purchase said crap - would you do it?

Not even for the low-low-low price of 16.99??! Thats 0% off its already low low regular price!! How can you NOT buy this item, I mean, you're practically throwing money away by reading this and not going out and spending it @ IKEA.com!!

Life's full of batches

And then you process one:

http://silverclipboard.com/2009/05/18/what-computers-know-about-time-management-that-you-dont-batch-processing/

...and move on to the next! I'm sure it goes well with a nice cup of The Cult of Done.

CG's talk about batch processing all the time, and I'd never really thought about the origins, until this forced its informational splotch crossed my beer.

Like Johnny Mnemonic says: "...Sogo 7 Data Gloves, a GPL stealth module, one Burdine intelligent translator... Thompson iPhone"; easy.

Rose Zephyr

Color me late to the party - its no longer 2006 and pin-ups aren't as hot as they used to be... roller-derby isn't as much the s*** as it used to be, although its still fan-freakin-tastic and my stocks are worth 40% as much as they once were.

I'm ok with that though. For the most part.

Some things brighten my day enough to forget the financial woes and lack of public interest for the betty paige era:

This pic "Rose Zephyr" by Kris Lewis for example.

http://copronason.com/prints110.html

There are/were 30 ltd. edition prints available at one point for around $400/ea (framed) and by golly if I were freelancing still, I'd pick one up. Its beautiful, thoughtful, clean, and well executed. What more could you want in some hipster-vintage art?

There's more pix online if you google the title that are shot with a camera whose white balance was way off but I actually like the rose-tint to them... who knows if the pic above is the real-deal. Next time I'm in L.A. I'm definitely going by the gallery to check it check it out.

Now, however, I'm off to a big bowl of poor.

Cheers.

Poke her

Poker face.

I just played some poker. Texas hold'em poker. A small online tourney with faux chips... no biggie - so it really doesn't matter that I had pocket Kings and he had gone all in with his Jack + 6 offsuit. It didn't matter that he got his 3RD Jack on the river. It really doesn't matter that my last words in the on-line group were "omfg".

What matters is that just before I got booted, I saw his reply:

"hahahahahahahahaha"

Goddamn poker and its fickle dispositon.

OMG

I just twittered!!

I signed up a year or so ago. Dunno why.

Seemed fun.

Now it seems as though I should wash myself of it... a lot.

Obsessively so, as I curl up in the shower like a fetus as the water washes my sins away.

Roof or Rooves

I needed documentation of this one today and found some on www.antimoon.com. I'm not sure the overall awesomeness of its intricacaties (yes thats a really fake word) and veracity of its verbage, but the comments and their quick decent into Des Cartes world of distinct quotabilities are (indeed they be) awesome:

http://www.antimoon.com/forum/2004/3810.htm

It begins with the roof rooves question (including Dwarfs / Dwarves) and continues onto:

"
Yoofs, of course Tuesday, January 06, 2004, 12:38 GMT
355 "yoofs" and 13 "yooves" in my searcher. That amounts to 96,47% Internet usage of the first.

Vegas bound... again.

For the upteenth time, I head to Vegas. If I weren't still getting incredible offers, I can honestly say I would not visit NV for at least a year or two.

But I am. So I go. One of these days I need to write a book about how to get fun stuff for free. I wonder if I should get into more shennanigans when I go so I have something more exotic to write about.

Well, free money is pretty exotic.

Netflix Watch Instantly...

Netflix Watch Instantly On the Xbox 360 is addicting.

Netflix Watch Instantly On the Xbox 360 is awesome.

Netflix Watch Instantly On the Xbox 360 is what streaming media should be... albeit without the good content that one might want to watch instantly... say for example... movies that just came out, or all the content that HULU has to offer.

Minor flaw.

Netflix Watch Instantly On the Xbox 360 is great.

I even started reading the reviews people decided to write of movies I loathe/adore/am on the fence about because I'm curious about how Netflix recommendations' accuracy stands in the face of real life experience.

I'm about to delve into National Treasure 2 (yes, by choice) and while I did enjoy the first rather mindless 'puzzle' of a movie, even with its leading man being about as talented as Keanu Reeves, I did love this particular review - an individual that neftlix decided I have 22% "taste" in common:

  • 5.0 Stars
This is a classic suspense movie with complex twists at every turn. Easy to follow content and dialect through fast-paced action scenarios. I found the movie refreshing. A good ol' time classic action adventure. The movie even ends on the good side of nature. How does the good guy come out on top? A two-headed coin of history is revealed.

I am partial to a couple of things they said:
  1. First its a "Classic suspense movie", the next sentence overrides: "...ol' time classic action adventure". Well shit, which is it?!! Am I supposed to get cozy with my bowl of popcorn ever fearful that something is going to lurch at our hero with a knife in a flash of light that makes me spill everywhere, or am I supposed to break out my 12-sided die and don my elf-garb...??!
  2. JUST after the great 'suspense movie' bit is "...movie with complex twists at every turn", literally followed with the next sentence: "Easy to follow content...". Well eff me. We're going left, right? Right. Right? Right. Ok. Nooo!! I said LEFT!!
  3. A two-headed coin of history is revealed. I don't even know what to say about this one.
But if I were to attempt a summation - its a classic suspense action adventure with complex twists that are easy to follow... with 1/2 a cliche about some fuc**** coin wrapped up in 3/4 of a complete sentence.

Is that about right?

Too bad I only share 22% of this persons taste, I'm really curious what adventures they would take me on next!

Up is down, left is right, black is white, cats and dogs living together... clearly we can say its a mad mad world.

***Update: I finished the moive. Overall... enjoyable! Plot twists and turns... um... yeah, no. Basically right up there with predictable obviousness. Its like watching an episode of CSI but with more plot holes.

Harvey Keitel? Ed Harris? Really?!? Big names, big Disney...

Canon 5D power supply shorted out

My camera's power supply shorted out.

At least that's what I'm assuming happened, this Vanie Poyey post detailed my experience pretty much 1:1...

http://poyeyphotos.com/blog/tag/canon-eos-5d-shorted-out

So naturally I'm considering this a "be forewarned" situation. If there are 3, 4, 5+ blog posts out there about "problem X", clearly its an issue. I figure if you can search for your problem and the answer pops up on the first google search return, then its an issue to be cautious about.

The guesstimation goes as follows (as I borrow words from the aforementioned blog):

  1. "...and turns out the stop screw on my lens was missing. The screw that stops it from rotating all the way down upon mounting. Indeed my lens rotated a little too far to the right and it shorted my camera..."
Sure enough, upon further inspection of my lens, there is a hole where there was presumably once a screw. My lens over-rotates backwards and thus doesn't lock. I don't hear a little jiggly screw loose in my camera so I assume its gone the way of the Dodo.

I'd include pics, but... well, I can't.

I hadn't done anything odd to it, hadn't mishandled it, hadn't dropped/thrown/placed in a jiggler... and one can only surmise that if it happens once, it can happen again. Am I going to have to check for loose screws from now on - each time I switch a lens am I going to be paranoid of popping that puppy out like so much teenage acne?

...hello, Nikon?

Ladies

Its been long enough.

Please.

For the love of all... stop wearing the sack.

You don't look cute in it. A potato does though.

It doesn't flatter your figure. It might if you were heroin-chic... and if you are, God bless you - eat. If you're not... please realize you lose all sense of woman when you wear these... you lose what makes your outside bits beautiful and force us to pay attention to the too oft-lacking insidey stuff we like in a human being.

A belt around your bellybutton does not help... just fyi.

Filezilla is teh best free FTP app I've used...
